Services provided to FAO on support to UNHCR for the implementation of activities under the Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) strategy


Based on the analysis of primary data collected in and around refugee camps in Ethiopia as well as secondary data on cooking fuel in refugee settings in the region, the following services are being carried out:

  1. Development of a tool for the supply and demand assessment of energy sources for cooking in refugee camps.
  2. Writing a manual on the supply/demand of energy for cooking in refugee camps and the potential for establishing woodfuel plantations and the provision of other sustainable bioenergy options as well promoting the use of energy-efficient technologies for households in refugee camps.

Off-grid small-scale renewable energy facility for existing emergent commercial agriculture project in Tanzania

The activities carried out by IDEA 2020 in the FAO project BEFS Rapid Appraisal examine the relationship between bioenergy and food security on one side assessing the profitability of biofuel production and on the other the possible impact on food security (socio-economic sustainability).
The DEIm of University of Tuscia has entrusted to IDEA 2020, the execution of the following activities:

  • Setting up and implementation of the research "economic profitability".
  • Setting up and implementation of the research "socio-economic sustainability".
  • Implementation of the phase of 'piloting test' of the simulation models derived from the analysis and review of models based on the results of the test.
